Pongal is a festival through which the worshipper expresses gratitude for the Sun God. It is believed that if one celebrates this festival, Sun God blesses one with healthy growth of paddy and other plantation, thus bringing peace and prosperity to the Tamils community at large.

In this festival people engage in cleaning up their houses, completes repairing, trashes are burnt, and useless things are thrown away.

The celebration extends to worshipping of the sacred animal – cow and they are clothed with their horns painted. The whole community engage themselves with fun and frolic. In this occasion one never falls short of cherishing bull fight.
