Ganesh Chaturthi:

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi marks the observance of the birthday of Lord Ganesha, youngest son of Shiva and Parvati, according to the Hindu scripts. This day falls between mid-August and mid-September.

Ganesh Chaturthi is the time for people to wear new clothes and prepare delicious dishes especially sweet dish like laddu or modak. People love to have this delicious sweet dish which is first offered to Lord Ganesha, assumed to be his favorite too.

The general mood among the people in western India fills with joy and devotion when offering to Lord Ganesha. People take leave from their profession as they celebrate this festival for 10 days. On the 11th day during immersion in the holy water the air fills with everyone shouting “Ganapati Bappa Maurya”.
