Chhath Puja

Chhath or Chhath Puja is an age old Hindu festival, mainly observed in Bihar, Jharkhand in India. This festival of Chhath is celebrated in the northeast region of India, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Chhattisgarh too.

Chhath is a festival devoted to the Surya, the Sun Goddess, who is considered as a mode to show gratitude to the sun for conferring the reward of life on earth.

Chhath is celebrated twice a year, once in the summers, the Chaiti Chhath, and once in the winters, called the Kartik Chhath. Chhath is a grueling ceremony, where the devotee is needed to fast for more than 24 hours without even drinking water.
