Shankarpur, Mandarmoni are two nearby beaches which are gathering momentum to catch up with Digha but still have miles to tread before they provide it some stiff competition.

Chhath or Chhath Puja is an age old Hindu festival, mainly observed in Bihar, Jharkhand in India. This festival of Chhath is celebrated in the northeast region of India, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Chhattisgarh too.

Chhath is a festival devoted to the Surya, the Sun Goddess, who is considered as a mode to show gratitude to the sun for conferring the reward of life on earth.

Chhath is celebrated twice a year, once in the summers, the Chaiti Chhath, and once in the winters, called the Kartik Chhath. Chhath is a grueling ceremony, where the devotee is needed to fast for more than 24 hours without even drinking water.

The most important annual religious feast or festival in the Christian liturgical year is the Easter, or Easter Festival, the festival of renewal and rejuvenation of life and living. Jesus Christ, according to the Christian scripture, was resurrected from the dead on the third day subsequent to his crucifixion.

Christian and Jewish people worldwide celebrate this incident of resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday, which comes two days after Good Friday and this celebration now-a-days formally continue for fifty days.

Easter Bunnies and Easter eggs are a major attraction of this feast. Conventionally, Easter eggs are hard-boiled eggs tinted in dazzling red to represent the spilt Blood of Christ which is an assurance of interminable life. These eggs are broken collectively to mark the opening of the Tomb of Christ.

Kite Festival, Jaipur, Rajasthan

The Kite Festival of Jaipur is observed on 14th of January, which is also celebrated as the day of Makar Sankranti. This day indicates the shifting of the Sun into Northern hemisphere.

The three-day long Jaipur Kite Festival includes equally enthusiastic participation of children and old people.

It begins with an official unveiling of some serious kite flying fights, hundreds of school children release bunches of colorful balloons and Air Force helicopters release beautifully innovatively designed and decorated kites from the sky. The final day of the festival is observed by a prize-distribution ceremony where the winners of the Fighter-Kite Competition and Display-Kite Competition, who also are honored with a farewell dinner with the Maharaja of Jodhpur.

Losoong Festival, Sikkim

Ajanta Ellora Caves, Aurangabad, Maharashtra

The famous Ajanta and Ellora are cave memorials positioned near the Aurangabad city in Maharashtra. These are man-made rock carvings, and are graded among some of the most marvelous examples of heritage of ancient Indian architecture.

Until John Smith, a British Army Officer, inadvertently tripped on them during a hunting mission in 1819, the 34 caves at Ellora are carved into the walls of a basaltic mount and the 29 caves at Ajanta lying deep-seated inside the Sahyadri ranges were left masked in anonymity for more than thousand years.

Ajanta has been selected as a World Heritage Site, to be preserved as an artistic legacy and is thronged by thousands of tourists every year.
